It was evident from a young age that there was something special about Cavan Te.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Cavan showed a precocious vocal talent first witnessed by his parents at the age of 6, when he sang and entertained a train filled with passengers during a family vacation.
By the time Cavan had written his first song, he had performed to 20,000 people at the Sydney Entertainment Centre for the Schools Spectacular, received a cameo appearance on Australia’s top TV drama Home & Away, and was one of the first two students inducted into Mary Lopez’s Australian Talent Development Program, the other was John Forman.
Writing and recording original music since 1994, Cavan’s first composition Blue Butterfly was to become his trademark song and thus the album title of his first original CD.
Honing his craft by touring his originals extensively at pubs, clubs and festivals nationally led to Cavan winning the South Australian Festival of Original Music award with his composition Streetlights, a finalist in Triple J’s Unearthed competition, radio airplay on ABC Radio National & Triple M, and the award for Most Outstanding Male Vocalist two years running at the South Australian Music Industry Awards.
Leaving Australia for a two year journey of cultural discovery traveling through New Zealand, Cavan was recognised in a bar singing Karaoke by a TV producer and asked to sing on ’The Big Night In’ television music program. Due to the popularity he received from his guest appearance, he released the CD ’Velvet Vocal’. The album included a selection from the ’Blue Butterfly’ album, the two songs he performed on the show, Lady Soul - Temptations and AS - Stevie Wonder, and ’Naked Love’, a previous unreleased original recording.
Soon after returning to Australia Cavan appeared on national television reaching the final stages of channel 10’s X Factor. Shortly after he teamed up with studio engineer Simon Svenson and together they took to the studio to record 'Somethin About My Baby' and 'Come 4 U'. These were Cavan’s first original recording’s in six years.
Auditioning for Rock Star Supernova, resulted in Cavan re-aquainting himself with the shows musical director and friend Jamie Rigg who coincidentally was looking for a resident singer on Foxtel TV’s music talk show Studio A With Simon Burke. Receiving the Job, Cavan had the delight of singing for the likes of Kate Ceberano, Alan Jones, Peter Garret, Leo Sayer, David Campbell, Noni Hazelhurst, Stuart Wagstaff, Nick Geanopolis, Glen Shorrock, Debbie Burn and Tamsin Carrol, to name a few.
Cavan has toured with and performed for prominent recording artists including: Jimmy Barnes, Roachford (UK), Jade Mac-Rae, Mark 'Diesel' Lizotte, Human Nature, Connie Mitchell (Sneaky Sound System), Renee Gayer, Jon Stevens, Cassandra Wilson (US), Mark Holden, Marcia & Deni Hines, Frankie Stevens (NZ), and Molly Meldrum.
Cavan Te is a singer’s singer, soulful performer, and quite possibly one of Australia’s great unsigned vocal talents.
